Kampala — Rt. Hon. Amason Jeffah Kingi, Speaker of the Senate of Kenya, has delivered a powerful address at the ongoing Africa Health Summit at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds, distilling the day’s deliberations into three defining lessons for the continent’s health future.
Kingi, who is serving as the Chief Guest at the inaugural Summit, said the gathering had renewed Africa’s resolve to take charge of its own health agenda and demonstrated that the continent has both the capacity and unity needed to transform its health systems.
“Today’s Summit has taught us three things,” Kingi said, before adding, “First, a renewed sense of responsibility, that Africa must own its health destiny. Second, possibility, this government has shown us that African solutions to African problems are not just a slogan, but achievable. And third, a renewed sense of unity, that when we stand together, we can change the narrative of Africa’s health sector.”

His remarks reinforced the overarching theme of the Summit, “Reclaiming Africa’s Health Future: From Dependency to Sovereignty through Innovation and Solidarity,” and echoed calls from leaders across the continent for stronger local manufacturing, innovation, and investment in health as a driver of economic growth.
The Africa Health Summit has drawn nearly 1,000 delegates including Ministers of Health, heads of global and continental health institutions, private-sector leaders, and development partners.

The discussions continue to highlight Africa’s shift from reliance on external support to building self-sustaining, resilient health systems.
Friday’s event concluded with various healthcare practitioners receiving awards in the 6th edition of the Heroes in Health Awards.
