Uganda, Qatar Move to Fast-Track Multibillion Investment Deals

Uganda has pledged its commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with the State of Qatar following a high-level meeting between the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in charge of International Affairs, Hon. Okello Henry Oryem, and Qatar’s Ambassador to Uganda, H.E. Ahmed Mohammed Abdulrahman Abdullah Al Zwaidi.

During the meeting, Hon. Oryem emphasized Uganda’s stable political environment, enhanced security, and investor-friendly climate as key enablers for deeper economic cooperation. He underscored the government’s readiness to facilitate increased Qatari investment across strategic sectors.

Ambassador Al Zwaidi commended Uganda’s natural beauty and improving infrastructure, referencing his recent visit to Murchison Falls, which he described as a remarkable experience. He also noted the significant progress in road connectivity beyond Kampala, signaling growing opportunities for tourism and trade.

The Ambassador further expressed Qatar’s commitment to fast-track the operationalization of pending Memoranda of Understanding and expand collaboration in priority sectors such as agriculture and manufacturing—areas seen as critical to Uganda’s industrialization agenda.

Both sides expressed optimism about the future of Uganda-Qatar relations, pledging to explore new avenues of cooperation aimed at boosting trade, investment, and sustainable development.
