Brenda Kiconco, a prominent youth leader in the National Resistance Movement (NRM), has been officially nominated to contest in the NRM party primaries for the position of National Chairperson of the Youth League within the Central Executive Committee (CEC).

Kiconco’s nomination marks a significant moment in the ongoing reorganization of the NRM’s youth structures ahead of the 2026 general elections.

A vocal advocate for youth inclusion in governance, she is anchoring her campaign on the message that young people must step up to lead today—not wait for tomorrow.

“We are the leaders of now, not tomorrow,” Kiconco said in a statement following her nomination.

“It is time we take responsibility, organize ourselves, and steer the future of this country with clarity, purpose, and courage.”

The race for the Youth League National Chairperson post is expected to be competitive, drawing young aspirants from across the country.

However, insiders say Kiconco’s early start, coupled with her bold messaging and strong mobilization base, gives her a compelling edge.

In her recently launched campaign under the banner “Youth Voice”, Kiconco calls on young people—from LC1 leaders to digital mobilizers—to rise and actively shape the next generation of the NRM.

Her vision aligns with the party’s four core principles: Patriotism, Pan-Africanism, Democracy, and Socio-Economic Transformation.

Party sources have hinted that Kiconco’s nomination is already stirring interest within youth circles and senior party ranks, with many viewing her as a dynamic figure capable of bridging the gap between the NRM’s older leadership and its youthful majority base.

The NRM primaries for CEC positions are scheduled to take place in the coming weeks.

If elected, Brenda Kiconco would become one of the youngest voices at the party’s highest decision-making table—signaling a new era of youth-led leadership within Uganda’s ruling party.

Kiconco’s campaign, running under the 2025–2030 strategic cycle, pledges to build cohesive youth structures from LC1 to national platforms, while also prioritizing digital engagement, economic empowerment, and civic education for the young generation.

Her advantage is not just who she is, but where she fits in the party’s political calendar. She offers continuity and change in one breath — continuity in upholding the President’s four ideological tenets, and change in being the first female face leading a youth generation born in the NRM era.

“She’s not a protest candidate. She’s a strategic one,” said an NRM youth affairs desk officer. “She will win because the party knows what’s at stake.”
