Uganda, Tanzania Commend Strong Relations, Urge Faster Delivery of Joint Commitments

Uganda and Tanzania have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, with the two countries highlighting their shared history, common interests and ongoing joint development projects.

The commitment was made on Friday when Uganda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Amb. Adonia Ayebare, received a courtesy call from Tanzania’s High Commissioner to Uganda, H.E. Major General Marco Elisha Gaguti, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kampala.

The two diplomats commended the excellent relations between the neighbouring countries, describing Uganda and Tanzania as sister states with deep historical ties and a shared vision for the future.

They also reviewed progress on ongoing joint projects, including the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP), which is being developed to transport Uganda’s crude oil from the Hoima oil fields to the Tanzanian port of Tanga for export.

The two officials further lauded the leadership of President Yoweri Museveni and his Tanzanian counterpart, President Samia Suluhu Hassan, noting that their continued engagement has contributed to strengthening cooperation between the two countries.

They particularly highlighted President Museveni’s recent visit to Tanzania, during which the two countries advanced discussions on areas of mutual interest and cooperation.

Ayebare and Gaguti underscored the need for both countries to expedite implementation of decisions reached at the Summit level in order to translate bilateral commitments into tangible benefits for the people of Uganda and Tanzania.

The meeting comes as Kampala and Dodoma continue to deepen cooperation in areas including energy, infrastructure, trade, investment and regional integration.
