CDF Gen Muhoozi: EA Standby Forces Must Stay Battle-Ready as Threats Evolve

Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has called for sustained military readiness, interoperability and strategic foresight as security challenges in Eastern Africa continue to evolve.

General Muhoozi made the remarks as the 36th Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) Policy Organs Meetings continued in Kampala, bringing together senior military leaders for the Committee of Chiefs of Defence and Security session.

The meeting focused on regional security priorities, operational readiness and the future of the EASF, with delegates reaffirming their commitment to building a peaceful, secure and stable Eastern Africa.

General Muhoozi highlighted the successful EASF Force Verification Exercise as evidence of the region’s determination to maintain a credible and deployable regional capability.

He stressed that evolving security threats require member states to remain prepared, strengthen interoperability and anticipate emerging challenges through strategic foresight.

The EASF Director, Brigadier General Ronald Rwivanga, meanwhile urged member states to strengthen political ownership, ensure predictable financing and invest in the force’s operational capabilities.

He also called for renewed high-level political commitment to the EASF as Eastern Africa adapts to a changing peace and security landscape.

The discussions in Kampala are expected to contribute to strengthening the regional standby force’s capacity to respond effectively to emerging peace and security threats and support stability across Eastern Africa.
