Rugyendo Pledges Transparent, Corruption-Free Speaker’s Office

Kampala, Saturday, August 15, 2026 — Newly appointed Principal Press Secretary to the Speaker of Parliament, Dr Arinaitwe Rugyendo, has pledged diligence, hard work, teamwork and total loyalty to Speaker Jacob Marksons Oboth as he takes up his new assignment.

Rugyendo, in a message following his appointment, thanked the parliamentary commission that appointed him, the selection panel that found him suitable for the position and Ugandans who welcomed his appointment across social media and radio.

He pledged to help build an Office of the Speaker that communicates in the interest of the greater good while upholding transparency, integrity and accountability and rejecting corruption and abuse.

“I pledge diligence, hard work, focus, and total loyalty to the Speaker, and to service, leadership, and teamwork,” Rugyendo said.

He said the Speaker’s Office would seek to contribute to Uganda’s development agenda, including the implementation of the country’s tenfold growth strategy and efforts to elevate Uganda’s standing in the international community.

Rugyendo also reached out to the media fraternity, promising closer collaboration between the Office of the Speaker and journalists.

“To the media fraternity, we shall set the agenda together,” he said.

He specifically highlighted the growing influence of online media and technology, saying the new approach would involve working with digital media practitioners to shape and produce content collaboratively.

“To online media specifically, we shall use the social shaping of technology to co-create and co-produce,” he said.

Rugyendo also expressed gratitude to colleagues and institutions that supported and encouraged him, including the Archbishop Desmond Tutu Leadership Programme in Cape Town, the Crans Montana Forum in Switzerland, Young Engineers Uganda, the Network for Multidisciplinary Research Africa, Research Finds News and the Uganda Premier League.

He further thanked religious communities and pilgrims to Kibeho in Rwanda and devotees of the Uganda Martyrs, whom he credited for their protection, grace and intercession.

The new Principal Press Secretary also acknowledged his family for what he described as their unwavering support and resilience.

He concluded his message by giving glory to God and quoting Philippians 4:13: “I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”

Rugyendo signed off his message with the Latin phrase Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam, meaning “For the greater glory of God.”
