NRM Entrepreneurs League Contestants Petition Museveni, Accuse Rival of Smuggling Delegates Across Borders

Tensions have emerged within the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Entrepreneurs League after several aspirants for the position of National Chairperson petitioned President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni over the disappearance of delegates ahead of key party elections during the delegates conference.

The petitioners; Phillip Kakuru, King Ceasor Mulenga, Tana Sanjay, and Mukesh, accuse one of the contestants of smuggling some delegates across the borders into Tanzania and Kenya in what they describe as a ploy to influence the outcome of the vote.

Addressing a joint press conference, Phillip Kakuru, accompanied with the other petitioners, warned that the ruling party is under siege from “individuals within who want to capture it for selfish gain.”

He said the alleged abduction of delegates undermines the integrity of the internal electoral process and risks fracturing the unity of the NRM.

The aspirants have asked President Museveni, who also serves as the National Chairman of the NRM and chairs the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC), to intervene and ensure transparency in the upcoming polls.

They did not name the candidate in question and say the intention is to return the delegates at the end of the month. Delegates form the electorate during the conference.

The NRM Entrepreneurs League is one of the party’s special interest groups represented on the CEC, a powerful organ that shapes policy and strategic direction of the ruling party.

The elections for new leaders are expected to be hotly contested as the party prepares for the 2026 general elections.

NRM officials are yet to comment publicly on the allegations.
