Rwampara District — Rwampara Woman MP Hon. Molly Asiimwe has officially withdrawn from the 2026 parliamentary race following a high-level reconciliation initiated by First Lady and Education Minister, Maama Janet Museveni.

The breakthrough came during a meeting held last Sunday at Irenga, Ntungamo, where Maama Janet Museveni convened Hon. Asiimwe and NRM flagbearer Ms. Annah Kansiime to resolve tensions that had emerged within the party ahead of the elections.

According to Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa, who on Thursday held a follow-up consultative meeting with local leaders and residents, the withdrawal was a mutual and well-explained decision aimed at preserving party cohesion in Rwampara.

Tayebwa said the engagements demonstrated the NRM’s commitment to handling internal disputes amicably and prioritizing unity.

“I was happy to see the two ladies hugging and forgiving each other,” he noted, praising Hon. Asiimwe for accepting the First Lady’s guidance. “Thank you Mama for helping us reconcile these two critical supporters of the NRM. It is a big step in uniting the people of Rwampara.”

The decision now clears the path for Ms. Annah Kansiime to carry the NRM flag unchallenged for the Rwampara Woman MP seat as the party strengthens its mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2026 general election.
