Kampala | UG Diplomat — Uganda’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, has expressed her readiness to retain her seat on the Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, saying her journey toward re-election is well underway.
“I am ready for CEC, and the journey has started because we have an incomplete party business that needs sustainability,” Kadaga stated confidently recently. “Yes, I am confident I will retain it.”
Kadaga, who has long served on the party’s top decision-making organ, emphasized her role as a voice for the grassroots, asserting that her mandate comes directly from the people.
“I have been the mouthpiece and loudspeaker of grassroots voters, so they renewed their trust and mandate for me to speak for them among the rank and file of leadership,” she said. “This is the trust I will not sacrifice nor betray.”
Kadaga’s declaration comes amid rising anticipation over her upcoming contest with Parliament Speaker Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among, who is expected to challenge her for the influential seat on the CEC. The showdown between the two top-ranking NRM women leaders is likely to define power dynamics within the party ahead of the 2026 general elections.
It also comes on the heels of the recently released NRM party roadmap that will see the party elect CEC leaders towards the end of the year
