Hajjat Sofia Safina Kenyangi, the National Chairperson of the Uganda Muslim Women Council and Director of Old Kampala Hospital, has declared her intention to contest for the Kampala District Woman Member of Parliament (MP) seat in the 2026 general elections.

Hajjat Kenyangi, a well-respected leader in the Muslim community and a seasoned mobilizer, brings a wealth of experience in advocacy, healthcare, and grassroots mobilization. Her decision to enter the race has been met with enthusiasm from various quarters, particularly among women and youth groups who have lauded her commitment to social transformation.

A strong advocate for women’s empowerment, Hajjat Kenyangi has played a key role in fostering unity and development within Uganda’s Muslim community. In 2024, President Yoweri Museveni launched the Uganda Muslim Supreme Women Council under her stewardship, a landmark initiative aimed at uplifting Muslim women through economic empowerment and leadership programs.

Her tenure as National Chairperson of the Uganda Muslim Women Council has been characterized by effective mobilization and resourcefulness, attributes that have positioned her as a formidable candidate in the upcoming elections. As Director of Old Kampala Hospital, she has championed accessible healthcare, particularly for underprivileged women and children, reinforcing her commitment to social welfare.
