The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela has denounced what it calls a “colonialist threat” aimed at violating its sovereign airspace, describing the move as an extravagant, illegal, and unjustified aggression against the Venezuelan people.
In a strongly worded statement, Caracas rejected a public message issued today on social media by the President of the United States, accusing Washington of attempting to impose—extraterritorially and illegitimately—its jurisdiction over Venezuela.
The government said the U.S. President’s remarks, which included directives and warnings regarding Venezuelan airspace, represent an attack on the country’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, aeronautical security, and the authority of the Venezuelan State.
Venezuela described the comments as “hostile, unilateral, and arbitrary,” alleging they form part of a long-standing pattern of U.S. aggression and imperial ambitions in Latin America and the Caribbean, in violation of internationally accepted norms.
Caracas further stated that the U.S. posture amounts to an explicit threat of the use of force—an action it says is clearly prohibited under Article 2(4) of the United Nations Charter.
