CDF Gen Muhoozi, Belgian Envoy Hold Talks on Expanding Strategic Partnership

The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, on Friday held a meeting with the Ambassador of Belgium to Uganda, H.E. Hugues Chantry, at the Special Forces Command Headquarters in Entebbe, focusing on strengthening the longstanding bilateral relations between the two countries and enhancing security cooperation.

General Kainerugaba underscored the importance of sustaining the strong partnership between Uganda and Belgium across all levels, noting that consistent diplomatic and defence engagement remains essential for stability and mutual progress.

The CDF also briefed the Belgian delegation on the regional security situation, including Uganda’s ongoing role in the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), the joint Operation Shujaa against ADF militants in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), and Uganda’s continued support to peacebuilding processes in South Sudan.

Highlighting the increasingly transnational nature of regional security threats, General Kainerugaba encouraged Belgium to deepen its collaboration with Uganda to address these shared challenges.

Ambassador Chantry—accompanied by Belgium’s Defence Advisor to Uganda, Col. Michel Recour, and other senior military and diplomatic officials—commended Uganda for its constructive engagement and reaffirmed Belgium’s commitment to maintaining smooth and productive relations.

Both sides concluded the meeting by reiterating their dedication to promoting peace and security in the region and exploring new avenues for mutual cooperation.
