The Uganda High Commission in Dar es Salaam has successfully concluded a Mauritius Travel-Trade Delegation Familiarization Mission, a strategic initiative aimed at strengthening bilateral tourism cooperation, expanding commercial visibility, and deepening Africa-to-Africa partnerships.

The delegation arrived on 21 November 2025 and embarked on a comprehensive exploration of Uganda’s signature tourism attractions through a programme coordinated by the High Commission in collaboration with the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and key tourism-sector players.

During the mission, delegates were immersed in a curated itinerary showcasing Uganda’s conservation success, cultural diversity, and its positioning as a premier destination for sustainable tourism and investment. The tour featured the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, Murchison Falls National Park, Kibale Forest, the Batwa cultural experience, and the world-renowned mountain gorilla trekking adventure in Bwindi, which several described as “life-changing.”

H.E. Amb. Col. (Rtd) Fred Mwesigye, applauded the delegation’s engagement

Guided by Afrireps, the delegation gained deeper insight into Uganda’s “Big Seven,” the country’s varied landscapes, and the pivotal role of tourism in driving national development. Delegates praised the warmth of Ugandans, the vibrancy of cultural interactions, and the authenticity of the experiences. Many expressed interest in developing new Uganda-based travel packages tailored for Mauritian tourists.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Mr. Ivan Stone commended Uganda’s exceptional hospitality and described the mission as transformational. Delegates shared personal reflections on intimate wildlife encounters and the sheer power of attractions such as Murchison Falls, calling Uganda a destination “with unmatched character and depth.”

Representing the Head of the Consulate of Mauritius in Kampala, Mr. Aurther Nzeyi expressed profound appreciation to the Uganda High Commission Dar es Salaam for its leadership and commitment to strengthening diplomatic and commercial ties. He lauded the mission as a model for how African nations can leverage tourism to boost mutual understanding, trade, and shared prosperity.

Uganda’s High Commissioner to Tanzania and Accredited to Mauritius, H.E. Amb. Col. (Rtd) Fred Mwesigye, applauded the delegation’s engagement and reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to nurturing stronger partnerships with Mauritius.

“We are delighted that the mission offered a life-changing experience. Uganda remains committed to strengthening our partnership with Mauritius and promoting two-way tourism and investment flows. With visa-free access for Mauritian travellers, our doors are wide open for deeper collaboration and shared growth,” he said.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Uganda Tourism Board emphasized that the mission represents more than a tourism showcase—it demonstrates Africa’s potential when countries invest in each other, build joint markets, and amplify a unified voice in global tourism.

As the delegation returns home, Uganda remains steadfast in welcoming the world “one partnership at a time,” while positioning the Pearl of Africa as a competitive hub for tourism, investment, and cultural diplomacy.
