Somalia’s Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mr. Hamza Adan Haadoow, has lauded Uganda’s long-standing contribution to peace and stability in Somalia under AMISOM and the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS).

Speaking during the Uganda–Somalia Joint Permanent Commission (JPC), Investment and Business Summit held at Mestil Hotel, Kampala, Mr. Haadoow extended warm greetings and best wishes from H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, to H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda, and to the people of Uganda.

He congratulated Uganda ahead of her 63rd Independence Anniversary on October 9th, commending the country’s continued commitment to fostering regional peace and cooperation.

Reflecting on the 2022 JPC, Mr. Haadoow noted that Uganda and Somalia had established a solid framework for collaboration in areas such as defence, education, training, capacity building, and diplomacy. He emphasized that the current session aims to deepen these ties through more structured and results-oriented engagement.

“They should find that the work is done, the data is complete, and the path forward is clear. This is how we demonstrate professionalism and turn dialogue into action,” he urged the technical teams from both countries.

Mr. Haadoow further highlighted Somalia’s vision to expand its cooperation with Uganda beyond security, to include trade, investment, education, cultural exchanges, and social development. He called on both sides to maintain a spirit of partnership and mutual growth, underlining that such collaboration is essential for building sustainable prosperity in the Horn of Africa.

The Uganda–Somalia JPC, now in its second session, brings together senior government officials and ministers from both nations to review implementation of earlier MoUs and sign new agreements in immigration, education and sports, and labour cooperation. The meeting also features an Investment and Business Forum aimed at boosting economic engagement between the two countries.
