Residents of Kikuba Village in Ndekye Ward, Rubirizi District are celebrating a major victory after Bunyaruguru Member of Parliament, Hon. Cadet Benjamin Buturo, personally funded a clean water project worth more than UGX 6 million, ending years of hardship for hundreds of families.
The newly commissioned water source is the latest in a series of community projects financed by the legislator, who has earned a reputation for directly responding to the needs of his constituents rather than waiting for government interventions.

For years, residents depended on water fetched from Lake Kigezi, exposing families to health risks and forcing women and children to walk long distances in search of clean water. The burden often kept children away from school and limited productive activities in the community.
Speaking during the commissioning, residents led by Tumwesigye Mangara and Kasande Merab described the project as life-changing, saying it has restored dignity and hope to the village.
“Hon. Cadet has given us life,” one grateful resident said, reflecting the mood of the community as clean water finally became accessible to households.

Local leaders hailed the project as a major boost to public health and economic development. Hon. Tugume Muzafaru noted that improved access to clean water would enhance sanitation standards while supporting small-scale farming and household livelihoods.
He urged residents to protect and maintain the facility, describing it as an important investment in Bunyaruguru’s future.
Fresh from being sworn in for another term in Parliament, Hon. Buturo reaffirmed his commitment to eliminating water scarcity across Bunyaruguru and pledged to continue mobilizing resources for community development.
The legislator said access to clean water remains one of his key priorities and promised that more projects are on the way.
Residents believe Buturo’s vast experience, national influence and strong networks place Bunyaruguru in a unique position to attract development opportunities. Many pointed to his close working relationship with President Museveni and Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba as an added advantage in lobbying for projects that can transform the constituency.
As celebrations continued in Kikuba Village, community elders said the new water source represents more than just access to clean water—it symbolizes a future of greater opportunity and development.
“We did not just elect a man; we elected a bridge to opportunity,” said one elder from neighboring Rutoto Sub-county.

For the people of Kikuba, the message is simple: after years of thirst and struggle, clean water is finally flowing, and with it comes renewed hope for a better future.
