President Yoweri Museveni has suggested the introduction of a recall process to remove Members of Parliament who underperform while still in office.
“I suggest that if the MP underperforms, we should initiate a recall process and gather signatures to remove them before the end of their term,” Museveni said.
The proposal adds to ongoing debates on accountability and performance in Uganda’s legislature, with the President emphasizing the need for leaders to remain answerable to the electorate beyond election periods.
hMuseveni’s suggestion has drawn mixed reactions from the public and political discussions, particularly regarding constitutional provisions governing the tenure and removal of elected representatives.
