Electoral Commission Warns Public Against Unauthorized Voter Information Website

Kampala, Uganda | December 31, 2025

The Electoral Commission (EC) has issued a public warning against the use of an unauthorized website allegedly providing voter registration and polling station information, cautioning that it may mislead the public and pose risks to personal data.

In a press release dated December 31, 2025, the Commission said it had become aware of a website operating under the name www.registry.ugtally.com, reportedly run by an entity known as FANON. The platform has been promoted as a tool to help members of the public locate their voter registration details and polling stations.

However, the EC emphasized that the website is not authorized and has no affiliation whatsoever with the Electoral Commission.

“While FANON has publicly stated that it is not affiliated with the Electoral Commission or any political party and claims its role is purely civic, the Electoral Commission wishes to categorically inform the public that the website is not authorised,” the statement reads.

The Commission further clarified that FANON has neither applied for nor received accreditation as a voter education civil society organisation. It stressed that the responsibility of setting up and managing systems that allow voters to digitally verify their registration and polling locations lies exclusively with the Electoral Commission.

The EC warned that the unauthorized website may contain misleading or inaccurate information and advised the public not to visit the site, submit personal details, or engage with its services. The Commission added that it would not be held responsible for any information accessed through or submitted to the said platform.

Citing Articles 60 and 61 of the 1995 Constitution, the Electoral Commission reiterated that it has the sole mandate to compile, maintain, revise, and update the National Voters Register. Any unauthorized access, hosting, use, or distribution of voter registration data, the Commission noted, constitutes an offence punishable under the law.

Members of the public have been urged to use only the official Electoral Commission website, www.ec.or.ug/register, to verify their voter registration particulars and polling station information.

The Commission said the warning was issued in the public interest to protect citizens from confusion, misuse of personal data, and other potential harm. It also disclosed that it has formally written to the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) seeking guidance on the appropriate action to be taken regarding the matter.

The statement was signed by Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission.
