Museveni Picks Kawumi for Deputy Chief Justice Role

President Yoweri Museveni has appointed Justice Moses Kazibwe Kawumi as the new Deputy Chief Justice of Uganda, according to a press release issued by the Presidential Press Unit (PPU) on Thursday.

The announcement also confirmed the appointment of Her Worship Agnes Alum as the new Chief Registrar.

According to the statement, the name of Justice Kawumi has already been forwarded to Parliament for approval in line with the constitutional requirements.

“The Presidential Press Unit (PPU) would like to inform the general public that the President of the Republic of Uganda, H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appointed Justice Moses Kazibwe Kawumi as the new Deputy Chief Justice,” the statement read.

It added that President Museveni had also appointed Agnes Alum to serve as Chief Registrar.

The appointments come at a time when the Judiciary continues to undergo institutional changes aimed at strengthening the administration of justice and improving efficiency in court operations.

The Deputy Chief Justice is one of the highest-ranking judicial officers in the country and is responsible for supervising the administration of courts as well as deputising the Chief Justice.

Justice Kawumi’s appointment now awaits scrutiny and approval by Parliament before he can formally assume office.
