‘Diplomacy That Delivers Results’: Adonia Promises As He Takes Over Foreign Affairs Ministry

Newly sworn-in Minister of Foreign Affairs Amb. Adonia Ayebare has pledged to pursue a results-oriented foreign policy focused on delivering tangible benefits for Ugandans.

Speaking shortly after receiving the instruments of office from the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Haruna Kasolo Kyeyune, at the Ministry headquarters in Kampala, Ayebare said he was ready to begin work and strengthen Uganda’s diplomatic engagement.

“I look forward to embarking on Diplomacy that delivers results for our people,” Ayebare said.

The new minister used the occasion to drum up support for Uganda’s bid to have former UN Under-Secretary-General and Ugandan diplomat Olara A. Otunnu elected as the next Secretary-General of the United Nations.

Ayebare’s endorsement adds momentum to Otunnu’s campaign as Uganda seeks to rally international support for his candidature ahead of the selection of the next UN Secretary-General.

Otunnu, a veteran Ugandan diplomat and former UN official, is among the candidates seeking to succeed the current UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, whose second term ends in 2026.

Ayebare’s call comes as Uganda seeks to strengthen its influence within multilateral institutions and advance its diplomatic interests on the global stage.

The minister’s assumption of office follows his swearing-in by President Yoweri Museveni at State House Entebbe, alongside Shartsi Kutesa Musherure, Minister of State for Finance, Planning and Economic Development in charge of Micro-Finance, and Witonze Juma, Minister of State for Internal Affairs.

Ayebare takes over the Foreign Affairs portfolio with extensive diplomatic experience, having served Uganda in various international capacities.

His appointment is expected to place renewed emphasis on Uganda’s engagement in regional affairs, multilateral diplomacy, economic diplomacy and the promotion of Uganda’s interests abroad.

The event was attended by officials from the ministry including Ambassador Leonard Mugerwa, who highlighted the Ministry’s achievements in the last five years.
