Uganda Confirms Troop Contribution

KAMPALA, Uganda | UG DIPLOMAT

Uganda will contribute troops to the International Stabilisation Force for Gaza, Foreign Affairs Minister Adonia Ayebare has confirmed, as international efforts to rebuild and stabilise the Palestinian territory gather momentum.

Ayebare made the announcement following his participation in a Board of Peace meeting focused on the reconstruction of Gaza, where he said an extensive plan for the territory’s recovery was presented.

“Today I participated in the Board of peace meeting on the reconstruction of Gaza, where an impressive detailed plan was presented,” Ayebare said in a statement shared on social media.

The minister said he also held discussions with members of the board, including Jared Kushner, the Institute for Global Change, the U.S. Special Envoy for Peace Missions and the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations.

“Uganda will be contributing troops to the International stabilization force for Gaza,” he confirmed.

Ayebare thanked President Yoweri Museveni for supporting Uganda’s participation in what he described as a historic undertaking, while also acknowledging Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba for his leadership in planning for Uganda’s contingent.

“Thank you President Museveni for your vision of accepting Uganda to be part of this historic endeavor and CDF Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba for your leadership in planning for our contingent,” he said.

Uganda’s Role in Gaza Stabilisation

Uganda’s confirmation places the country among nations preparing to support international efforts aimed at addressing Gaza’s security and reconstruction challenges following the devastating conflict.

The proposed International Stabilisation Force forms part of a broader framework intended to support peace, civilian protection, reconstruction and the establishment of conditions for long-term stability in Gaza.

The announcement also builds on Uganda’s longstanding participation in international peace-support operations, particularly across Africa, where the UPDF has served in missions addressing conflict, terrorism and regional instability.

Ayebare did not disclose the size of Uganda’s contingent, the deployment timeline or the specific operational responsibilities that Ugandan personnel will undertake.

The minister’s statement nevertheless signals Kampala’s commitment to participating in the international response to Gaza’s post-conflict needs.
