State Minister for Lands Persis Namuganza has paid tribute to veteran politician and former military officer Major (Rtd.) Gertrude Nanyunja Njuba, describing her as a cornerstone of Uganda’s history.
In a message shared following a meeting with Njuba, Namuganza expressed gratitude for the veteran’s counsel, guidance and wisdom, highlighting her enduring contribution to the country.
“Had a deeply enriching and fruitful discussion with a true cornerstone of our nation's history, Mama Gertrude Njuba. Always incredibly grateful for her elderly wise counsel, enduring guidance, and timeless wisdom. Thank you, Mama!” Namuganza said.
Njuba is a prominent figure in Uganda’s political and military history, having served in the National Resistance Army (NRA) during the 1981–1986 liberation struggle.
She was among the few women who held leadership roles in the NRA during the bush war, attaining the rank of Captain before retiring from military service as a Major.
Over the years, Njuba has held several positions in government, including serving as a Member of Parliament, Deputy Minister and Presidential Advisor.
Her meeting with Namuganza highlights the continued recognition of veteran figures whose experiences and contributions have helped shape Uganda’s political history.
