Busoga sub-region was lit up as women from all districts gathered to welcome and do what appeared to be an endorsement of Ms Adrine Kobusigye, a frontrunner in the race for NRM Women’s League National Chairperson (CEC).

Held in a packed warmly decorated hall draped in party colors, the meeting was both a political mobilization and a spiritual consecration.

Flanked by banners carrying her image alongside that of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the ruling NRM party National Chairman, Kobusigye addressed  the room filled with women leaders, grassroots mobilizers, and supporters.

The event was marked by prayers, speeches, testimonies, and strategic discussions about the future of women in Uganda’s politics and development.

In a symbolic and deeply moving moment, the women bowed and prayed for Kobusigye’s journey, asking the creator to shield her from sabotage, grant her strength, and crown her efforts with victory.

“We believe in her calling, her capacity, and her character,” said one of the elders. “This is our leader, and Busoga is behind her 100%.”

Speaking with confidence, Kobusigye thanked the Busoga women for their love and commitment to the NRM. She acknowledged the many challenges they face; poverty, limited access to capital, domestic violence, and underrepresentation in leadership, and vowed to be their voice.

“My leadership is not about holding a title; it’s about transforming lives. I’m running to open doors for every woman in every corner of this country. Our time is now.”

She promised to push for:

  • Increased economic empowerment programs tailored for rural women,

  • Advocacy for gender-responsive budgeting, especially in service delivery sectors,

  • Training and mentorship for young women in leadership, and

  • A listening and responsive Women’s League that works with the grassroots, not above them.

Participants left the meeting inspired, with renewed faith in the power of women’s unity. Many pledged to mobilize their villages, parishes, and districts to vote massively for Kobusigye when the time comes.

Kobusingye will face-off with seasoned NRM honcho, Lydia Wanyoto, among others in the race that is beginning to take shape following the conclusion of the NRM Primaries last week
