Dr Sylvia Alinaitwe Mwanaki, the former Deputy Managing Director of the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC), has officially declared her intention to contest for the Rukiga District Woman Member of Parliament seat, promising to champion economic empowerment, market access, and grassroots financial inclusion.
Her campaign was unveiled on Friday during a well attended homecoming event at Kantale, drawing hundreds of supporters from across Rukiga.

In her address, Alinaitwe laid out a practical roadmap to transform the livelihoods of ordinary citizens, with heavy focus on wealth creation and self-sustaining development.
“We shall all generate wealth because we have started looking for markets for our products,” she told the cheering crowd. “I intend to establish collection points and local markets where our farmers can bring produce like coffee and be paid immediately. This will bridge the gap between farmers and buyers and ensure our people get timely returns for their hard work.”

In addition to improving agricultural trade, Alinaitwe emphasized the need to expand financial literacy and access to savings. She committed to scaling up cash-saving initiatives through the promotion of Savings and Credit Cooperative Organizations (SACCOs) throughout the district.
“Empowering our people economically requires that we save, invest, and grow together,” she said, noting that these grassroots savings platforms would provide a foundation for sustained community growth.
Alinaitwe also pledged her commitment to unity and peace in Rukiga, pledging to work in line with President Yoweri Museveni’s development vision and the National Resistance Movement (NRM) manifesto.

“Today marks the beginning of a new chapter in my life – a journey of leadership and service through politics,” she declared. “But this journey is not mine alone. With the strength and wisdom of the people of Rukiga, we shall walk this path together and deliver meaningful transformation to our communities.”
She also pledged her allegiance to the ruling NRM, stating, “I carry the NRM flag with pride, inspired by the visionary leadership of H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. Let us unite to uphold the values of peace, prosperity, and patriotism that he has consistently championed.”
