New York – Uganda has kicked off the United Nations General Assembly High-Level Week with a strategic meeting focused on boosting trade and investment, particularly in the aviation sector.

Vice President Jessica Alupo met with Dr. Brendan Nelson, President of Boeing Global, to explore potential areas of business cooperation with Uganda. The discussions touched on opportunities to support Uganda Airlines, the country’s young national carrier, as Kampala seeks to expand its aviation industry and strengthen regional connectivity.

The meeting was also attended by Vincent D. Spera, Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of African Affairs at the U.S. Department of State. According to officials, the engagement reaffirmed the U.S. government’s commitment to deeper trade and investment partnerships with Uganda.

Uganda’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Adonia Ayebare, hailed the talks as “a great start” to Uganda’s participation in this year’s UN General Assembly, noting that aviation and broader economic cooperation with American companies like Boeing could play a vital role in supporting Uganda’s growth.

Uganda Airlines, relaunched in 2019, currently operates regional and international routes and is positioning itself as a hub carrier for East and Central Africa. Partnerships with aerospace leaders such as Boeing are seen as key to strengthening the airline’s fleet and enhancing operational capacity.
