The Government of Uganda has issued an urgent security notice advising all Ugandan citizens in the Islamic Republic of Iran to take serious precautions and, where possible, leave the country due to the deteriorating security situation.

In a statement dated February 28, 2026, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary Vincent Bagiire Waiswa, said government is monitoring developments in the Middle East “with grave concern” and called on all parties involved in the tensions to exercise restraint, prioritize dialogue, and avoid further escalation.

The government advised Ugandans currently in Iran who are able to do so to depart “through any possible means,” citing the increasingly volatile security environment.

As part of its precautionary measures, Uganda has decided to withdraw all non-essential staff from its embassy in Tehran. The ministry noted that consular services will be severely limited for the time being as alternative arrangements are being put in place.

The advisory comes amid escalating military clashes between Israel and Iran, with the United States also reportedly involved, raising fears of a broader regional war in the Middle East.

Ugandans who remain in the country have been urged to inform community leaders of their whereabouts, stay indoors, and closely monitor media reports for updates. The ministry cautioned that information regarding evacuations will remain limited until the situation stabilizes.

In addition, the government strongly advised all Ugandan citizens to suspend travel to the Middle East until further notice, citing the extremely fluid situation affecting international travel across the region.
