Uganda, Algeria Pledge Strong Bilateral Ties as Trade and Cooperation Deepen

The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs (International Affairs), Hon. Oryem Henry Okello, on Friday held discussions with H.E. Amokrane Mourad, Ambassador of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria to Uganda, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters in Kampala.

Both sides commended the long-standing relations between Uganda and Algeria, highlighting recent growth in trade and cooperation.

Hon. Oryem welcomed Uganda’s expanding exports to Algeria, noting that 400 tonnes of powdered milk have already been supplied, alongside coffee exports through four active Ugandan companies.

Oryem and Ambassador Mourad reaffirmed their countries’ shared commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation

Ambassador Mourad applauded Uganda’s participation in the upcoming Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF 2025) in Algeria, where Ugandan products and innovations will be showcased.

The meeting also reviewed progress on a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Finance Ministers of both countries, which will facilitate the extension of Katakwi Hospital, a project expected to begin in four months. Discussions further explored opportunities for Algerian scholarships to support Ugandan students.

Hon. Oryem and Ambassador Mourad reaffirmed their countries’ shared commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation for the mutual benefit of their peoples.
