Russian Parliament Leaders Congratulate Uganda on Independence, Pledge Stronger Legislative Cooperation

Leaders of the Russian Parliament have extended warm congratulations to Uganda on the occasion of its 63rd Independence Anniversary, highlighting the continued friendship and cooperation between Moscow and Kampala at the parliamentary level.

In a congratulatory letter addressed to Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among, Speaker of the Parliament of Uganda, the Chairperson of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Rt. Hon. Valentina Matviyenko, praised the active and growing engagement between the legislatures of the two nations.

Matviyenko commended Uganda’s progress and emphasized the importance of maintaining constructive dialogue between lawmakers, noting that it would “facilitate the implementation of bilateral projects, enrich the agenda of interstate partnership, and expand interregional cooperation.”

“I wish you, Dear Madame Speaker, and your colleagues every success in your responsible activities and to all citizens of the Republic of Uganda — prosperity and goodness,” she stated.

In a separate message, the Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, Rt. Hon. Vyacheslav Volodin, also congratulated Speaker Among and the people of Uganda on the national day, wishing them continued peace and success.

“I would like to congratulate you on the occasion of the national day of the Republic of Uganda — the Independence Day. I wish you success, and the people of Uganda — peace and all the very best,” Volodin wrote in his handwritten message.

The two letters from the Russian parliamentary leaders underscore Moscow’s commitment to deepening inter-parliamentary relations with Kampala, building on mutual respect, shared values, and cooperation in legislative affairs, legal reform, and cultural exchange.

The exchanges reflect the growing warmth in Uganda–Russia relations, particularly in strengthening institutional partnerships that support broader political, economic, and social cooperation between the two countries.
