Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni - UG DIPLOMAT

Uganda is preparing for a high-profile presidential inauguration after Yoweri Kaguta Museveni was officially declared winner of the January 2026 general election, securing a historic seventh term in office.

According to credible sources, Museveni will be sworn in on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.

The sources add that at least 50 Heads of State and Government from across the globe have already confirmed their attendance, signaling the scale and diplomatic significance of the event.

Fresh from his victory in the January 2026 general election, where Museveni secured re-election with 71.65% of the vote, defeating his closest challenger Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu who polled 24.72%, the event is expected to draw multitudes.

Museveni’s January victory extended his four-decade time at the top. The election, closely watched both domestically and internationally, was framed by the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) as a reaffirmation of stability and continuity under the banner of ‘protecting the gains,’.

Despite political contestation, the official results handed Museveni a decisive mandate, paving the way for his seventh swearing-in ceremony since first taking power in 1986.

Preparations for the inauguration are already underway, with the Head of Public Service chairing a cross-government National Organising Committee tasked with coordinating logistics, security, protocol, and international delegations.

The ceremony is expected to transform Kololo into a major diplomatic stage, bringing together African leaders, global partners, and international observers, a moment Kampala is positioning as both a national milestone and a showcase of Uganda’s regional influence.

The presence of dozens of world leaders highlights Uganda’s strategic role in regional security, peacekeeping, particularly in Somalia, and its growing engagement in global geopolitical alignments.

Museveni’s new term is expected to focus on economic transformation, regional integration, and maintaining Uganda’s influence within East Africa and beyond, even as internal political dynamics continue to evolve.
