KAMPALA — Iran has pledged its commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Uganda following Foreign Affairs Minister Hon. Amb. Adonia Ayebare’s first diplomatic briefing with members of the diplomatic corps based in Uganda since assuming office.
The Iranian Embassy in Uganda shared a photo of Ambassador His Excellency Majid Saffar who attended the briefing convened by Ayebare and described the engagement as insightful, while expressing confidence in continued cooperation between the two countries.
“It was a pleasure to attend this insightful Diplomatic Briefing coordinated by [Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs],” the Iranian Embassy said in a post on X, accompanied by a photograph of Ambassador Saffar with Ayebare.
The Embassy congratulated Ayebare on his new assignment and wished him success in his tenure as Uganda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.
“We wish Hon. Amb. Adonia Ayebare great success in his new role and look forward to further strengthening the bilateral relations between Iran and Uganda,” the Embassy said.
The briefing provided Ayebare with an opportunity to engage directly with representatives of Uganda’s diplomatic community as he begins his tenure at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Ayebare, a career diplomat and Uganda’s former Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, was sworn in as Minister of Foreign Affairs earlier this month, succeeding Gen. Jeje Odongo.
His assumption of office comes at a time when Uganda continues to place emphasis on strengthening bilateral partnerships, South-South cooperation and engagement with countries across Africa, Asia, the Middle East and beyond.
Uganda and Iran have maintained diplomatic relations and cooperation in areas including trade, investment, education, agriculture, energy and political consultations. Iran is also a member of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) that Uganda chairs.
The engagement between Ayebare and Ambassador Saffar also signals Iran’s interest in maintaining high-level diplomatic engagement with Uganda under the new Foreign Affairs leadership.
