President Yoweri Museveni has welcomed Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to Uganda for high-level discussions aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation and advancing shared African interests.

In a statement issued upon the Egyptian leader’s arrival, Museveni described the visit as an important step in strengthening the long-standing ties between Kampala and Cairo.

“I welcome H.E. Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, to Uganda. I look forward to our fruitful discussions aimed at strengthening the long-standing cooperation between our two countries and advancing the interests of Africa as a continent,” Museveni said.

Although no official word has been given on the agenda of the talks, the visit is expected to focus on a range of strategic issues, including trade, regional security, infrastructure development, agriculture, energy cooperation, and continental integration under the African Union framework.

Uganda and Egypt have maintained diplomatic relations for decades, with both countries increasingly cooperating on matters concerning regional peace, Nile Basin affairs, economic development, and intra-African partnerships.

Analysts say the meeting comes at a significant time as African countries push for stronger continental unity, expanded trade under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), and coordinated responses to regional security and economic challenges.

President el-Sisi’s visit also underscores Egypt’s growing diplomatic engagement in East Africa and Uganda’s continued role as a key regional player in peace, security, and economic diplomacy.
