Uganda, Belgium Ink Deal on Inclusion and Non-Discrimination

Uganda has signed a Cooperation Framework with the Belgian Agency for International Cooperation (Enabel) aimed at strengthening inclusion, non-discrimination and the protection and promotion of human rights in regions participating in the Belgium-Uganda Country Programme.

The framework was signed by Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development Henry Musasizi and Enabel Country Director Nicolas Oebel at a ceremony witnessed by the Belgian Ambassador to Uganda, H.E. Hugues Chantry.

The initiative will be supported by a grant of EUR 299,616 and will focus on strengthening human rights protection and promoting inclusive approaches in development interventions financed by Belgium.

Musasizi welcomed Belgium’s continued support to Uganda’s development priorities, citing the ongoing five-year Uganda-Belgium Country Programme, which is backed by a EUR 68 million grant.

He called for strong coordination, accountability and collaboration among stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of the programme and maximise its impact on communities.

The Cooperation Framework is expected to reinforce efforts to ensure that development interventions are implemented in ways that uphold human rights, promote inclusion and prevent discrimination.

Belgium remains a key development partner for Uganda, supporting interventions aligned with the country’s development priorities under the broader bilateral cooperation programme.
