The Ambassador of Algeria to Uganda, H.E Mourad Amokrane, has called for renewed efforts to strengthen patriotism across the African continent, saying it is key to safeguarding Africa’s sovereignty in the face of modern global challenges.

The Ambassador made the remarks while receiving running kits ahead of the 52nd Birthday Run for Muhoozi Kainerugaba, scheduled for Sunday at Kololo Independence Grounds.

He emphasized that Africa’s unity remains central to overcoming what he described as contemporary threats, including neo-colonial influence and other external pressures.

“It is high time African patriotism is strengthened. That is the only way we can deal with issues like neo-colonialism,” Ambassador Amokrane said.

The envoy also commended the purpose of the event, noting that proceeds from the birthday run will be directed towards supporting vulnerable communities.

He further extended birthday wishes to General Muhoozi, praising the initiative as one that blends celebration with social impact.

“I wish General Muhoozi a happy 52nd birthday. It is important that the organisers have chosen to run for this noble cause,” he added.

The annual run has in recent years attracted participants from different sectors, positioning itself as both a social and philanthropic event in Uganda’s public calendar.

On his part, Mr Paul Taremwa, the Chairman Patriots Club, appreciated the embassy for partnering with them in this year’s MK Birthday Run, whose theme is “Run for Charity, Run for Hope.”
