Uganda, UK Discuss 2026 Poll Preparedness and Great Lakes Security

Uganda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Gen. Jeje Odongo, has met with the British High Commissioner to Uganda, H.E. Lisa Chesney, for high-level talks on strengthening relations between the two countries.

The meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kampala and covered a wide range of bilateral and regional issues.

Discussions centered on peace and security developments in the Great Lakes region, where both Uganda and the United Kingdom share mutual interests in stability, conflict resolution, and sustainable development.

The two sides explored ways to enhance collaboration in tackling emerging threats and supporting peacebuilding efforts across the region.

Amb. Chesney described the engagement as an “excellent discussion” focused on strengthening the Uganda-UK relationship, creating the right conditions for economic growth, and working together to address regional security challenges.

The talks also addressed Uganda’s level of preparedness for the upcoming 2026 general elections.

Gen. Odongo assured the UK envoy that measures are in place to ensure a credible, transparent, and peaceful electoral process, stressing that Uganda values strong partnerships with allies who support democratic stability.

Both sides used the meeting to strengthen the foundations of Uganda–UK relations, with a shared focus on promoting peace, driving prosperity, and ensuring lasting stability in the Great Lakes region.
