Uganda is interested in involving Russian companies in the development of its mineral deposits, including rare earth minerals.

Russian Ambassador to Uganda Vladlen Semivolos stated this in a comment to TASS following the third session of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic and Scientific-Technical Cooperation, which took place in Kampala on October 7–8.

According to him, “the scale of Russian entrepreneurs’ presence in the Ugandan market is insufficient and clearly does not match the existing potential for practical cooperation.”

Uganda, he emphasized, is open to collaboration and interested “in involving Russian companies in the development of mineral deposits, including rare earth minerals, in acquiring various types of agricultural and construction equipment, in direct grain supplies, and in creating joint ventures to produce fertilizers based on the country’s phosphate deposits.”

Rare earth minerals are crucial for developing high-tech industries, clean energy, and modern defense systems.

“In the republic, our advanced developments in the field of information and communication technologies are also in demand,” Semivolos added. “In addition, we are ready to expand cooperation in tourism, healthcare, and education.”

Ugandan entrepreneurs, in turn, are interested in increasing exports of coffee, tea, cocoa beans, and fruits to Russia, as well as in establishing direct sales channels.

“Today, a significant portion of such supplies is carried out through Europe,” the ambassador noted. “And this leads to a considerable increase in product costs.”
