Uganda – Cuba Parliamentary Dialogue Sets Stage for Broader Cooperation

The President of the International Relations Committee of the Cuban National Assembly, Mr. Alberto Núñez, and Mr. Ulman Carmona, Head of Africa and Arab Affairs in the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on November 21 held a high-level meeting with Hon. Fred Opolot, Vice Chairperson of Uganda’s Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs.

Hon. Opolot was accompanied by Uganda’s Ambassador to Cuba, H.E. Elizabeth Sylvia Musaazi, Ambassador Elly Kamahungye, Head of International Political Cooperation, and staff from the Embassy of Uganda in Havana.

During the engagements, both delegations discussed ways to expand cooperation and reinforce the longstanding friendship between Uganda and Cuba.

Conversations focused on strengthening parliamentary diplomacy, enhancing collaboration in education, health, and technical exchange, and exploring new opportunities aligned with the development goals of both countries.

Mr. Núñez reiterated Cuba’s unwavering commitment to deepening engagement with African partners. He emphasized the historic solidarity between the two nations and noted that sustained parliamentary dialogue is essential for building stronger bilateral relations.

Hon. Opolot expressed appreciation for Cuba’s steadfast support and highlighted Uganda’s commitment to expanding cooperation in areas that directly benefit the wellbeing and development of its people. He underscored the value of structured parliamentary engagement as a critical driver of strengthened ties.

Both sides agreed to maintain regular consultations and work jointly toward implementing concrete initiatives that advance bilateral cooperation and promote sustainable development for the peoples of Cuba and Uganda.
