Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, on Saturday paid a courtesy call on the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), H.E. Félix Tshisekedi, at the Cité de l’Union africaine in Kinshasa.

General Muhoozi, who is also Commander of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), is currently in Kinshasa on a working visit to evaluate Operation Shujaa — the joint military offensive between the UPDF and the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) against the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) in eastern DRC.

During his meeting with President Tshisekedi, the CDF expressed appreciation for the continued collaboration between Uganda and the DRC in the fight against terrorism and insecurity in the region. The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral military cooperation, enhancing joint operational effectiveness, and reinforcing commitments to regional peace and stability.

General Muhoozi, who earlier held a strategic assessment meeting with his Congolese counterpart, General Jules Banza Mwilambwe, reiterated Uganda’s resolve to work closely with FARDC under Operation Shujaa, which has significantly degraded ADF capabilities since its launch in 2021.

President Tshisekedi, the Commander-in-Chief of the FARDC, welcomed the ongoing partnership and emphasized the importance of unified action to eliminate terrorist threats and restore security in eastern Congo. Both parties acknowledged the progress made and agreed on the need for continued coordination at the highest level.

The visit is part of Uganda’s commitment to a peaceful and stable Great Lakes Region and marks a new phase in the Kampala-Kinshasa security alliance.
