Uganda’s President Yoweri Tibuhaburwa Kaguta Museveni’s landlside win from the just concluded general elections, has been officially sealed after the Electoral Commission gazetted the final results in the Uganda Gazette Extraordinary, giving the outcome full legal effect.

Museveni was declared the winner of the January 15 election, extending his stay at the top by a further five-year term. The Electoral Commission said he secured 72 per cent of the vote, defeating his closest challenger, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, who garnered 25 per cent.

According to General Notice No. 244 of 2026, published under Section 59 (3) of the Presidential Elections Act, Cap. 179, Museveni, the flag bearer of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), obtained 7,946,772 votes, ahead of seven other candidates in the race.

His main rival, Kyagulanyi of the National Unity Platform (NUP), polled 2,741,238 votes, while James Nandala Mafabi of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) received 209,039 votes. Other candidates included Mugisha Gregory Muntu Oyera of the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) with 59,276 votes, Bulira Frank Kabiga of the Revolutionary People’s Party (RPP) with 45,959 votes, Kasibante Robert of the National Peasants’ Party (NPP) who garnered 33,440 votes, Munyagwa Mubarak Sseruga of the Common Man’s Party (CMP) with 31,666 votes, and Joseph Mabirizi of the Conservative Party (CP) who polled 23,458 votes.

The gazette, dated 6 February 2026, marks the final statutory step in confirming the presidential election outcome and accords the results full legal standing unless successfully challenged through the courts.

Under Ugandan law, the publication of results in the official gazette formally recognizes the president-elect and opens the window for any election petitions to be filed within the constitutionally prescribed timelines. It also clears the way for the swearing-in of the President and the commencement of the next term of office.

Kasibante who filed a petition with the Supreme Court challenging the results, has since developed cold feet over costs and wants the petition withdrawn

Copies of the gazetted results are available at all Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation (UPPC) offices nationwide and on the UPPC online portal at portal.uppc.go.ug.
