Uganda is once again taking center stage in global diplomacy as it prepares to host the Midterm Review Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) at the level of Ministers of Foreign Affairs from October 13 to 16, 2025, at the Speke Resort Munyonyo under the theme “Deepening Cooperation for Shared Global Affluence.”

The meeting comes nearly two years after Uganda successfully hosted the 19th NAM Summit of Heads of State and Government in January 2024, which marked a historic moment in reaffirming the country’s leadership within the Movement.

According to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Vincent Waiswa Bagiire, preparations by the Government of Uganda, through its Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, are in advanced stages to ensure a successful event. The conference will draw delegations from NAM Member States, Observer Countries, and Observer Organizations.

The four-day meeting will deliberate on pressing global and regional issues affecting the Movement, including peace and security, global governance reforms, and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Among the key agenda items are:

  • The relevance of NAM amid rising geopolitical tensions and threats to global peace and development.

  • Reaffirmation of the Movement’s commitment to the Palestinian cause and condemnation of ongoing humanitarian violations in Gaza.

  • Calls for the full implementation of UN General Assembly Resolution ES-10/27 (June 2025) to end the Gaza blockade and enable humanitarian access.

  • The need to strengthen multilateralism and reform international financial institutions and the UN Security Council to better represent developing countries.

  • A renewed focus on poverty eradication, industrial growth, trade, and job creation, in line with the UN 2030 Agenda and the Addis Ababa Action Agenda.

The ministers are also expected to discuss the Ezulwini Consensus and Sirte Declaration, which advocate for Africa’s fair representation in the UN Security Council, as well as preparations for the 20th NAM Summit in Uzbekistan.

Uganda, currently chairing the Movement under the leadership of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has been commended for championing unity among developing nations and promoting South–South cooperation.

Final consultations on the Outcome Documents to be adopted by Ministers of Foreign Affairs are underway, and they are expected to guide NAM’s priorities for the coming years.

Authorities have announced controlled access measures around the Munyonyo area during the conference period, urging the public to cooperate with security and traffic control arrangements to facilitate the smooth running of the event.
