Uganda will officially inaugurate the National Muslim Youth Council Assembly in a grand national event scheduled to take place from August 6th to 7th, 2025, at Bugembe Stadium in Jinja City.

This long-anticipated inauguration follows the 2022 amendment of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) Constitution, which established a democratic structure for youth representation across the Muslim community — from mosque level up to the national level. The newly formed Youth Councils, complete with delegates from each of Uganda’s 82 Muslim districts and every Muslim region, now form the National Muslim Youth Council, a complementary organ within the UMSC.

Themed “Youth Empowerment and Skills Development for Self-Sustainability,” the ceremony will attract more than 20,000 participants, making it one of the largest Muslim youth mobilizations in the country’s history. The occasion is expected to underscore the growing role of youth in shaping the future of Uganda’s Muslim community and the nation at large.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is expected to grace the event as Chief Guest, reaffirming the government’s commitment to youth development and inclusive governance. Also lined up for the landmark ceremony are H.E. Dr. Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, Mufti of Uganda, who will serve as Guest of Honor, and Owek. Prof. Dr. Muhammadi Lubega Kisambira, the National Chairman of UMSC, who will officiate as the Main Celebrant.

Speaking ahead of the function, the National Chairman of the UMSC Youth Council Assembly, Hon. Habib Mustafa, extended an open invitation to Muslim youth across the country.

“This is not just a celebration of a new structure; it is a gateway for young Muslims to actively shape the destiny of their communities and country. I call upon all youth to attend and be part of this historic moment,” he said.

The formation of the National Muslim Youth Council marks a new chapter of participatory leadership in Uganda’s Muslim affairs, creating formal avenues for youth involvement in decision-making, program implementation, and the general development of the Ummah.

The event will feature inspirational speeches, skills exhibitions, and cultural performances, reinforcing the importance of youth empowerment, enterprise, and faith-based unity in building a self-reliant future.

Bugembe Stadium is already buzzing with preparations, with logistical teams and organizers working to ensure a smooth and impactful ceremony that will resonate across generations of Uganda’s Muslim youth.
