President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Friday met and held productive discussions with H.E. Vladlen Semivolos, the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Uganda, and Ms. Bella Cherkesova, Russia’s Deputy Minister of Digital Development, Communications, and Mass Media.
The meeting, held at State House Entebbe, focused on strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in key sectors of mutual interest, particularly in the fields of digital transformation, communication, and media development.
President Museveni and the Russian delegation exchanged views on how both countries can leverage digital innovation to foster socio-economic growth, enhance capacity building, and promote technological exchange between Ugandan and Russian institutions.
The discussions also highlighted the historical friendship between Uganda and Russia, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to advancing collaboration under existing bilateral frameworks.
The meeting was attended by senior Ugandan government officials, including Hon. Henry Oryem Okello, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in charge of International Cooperation, and Hon. Godfrey Kabyanga, Minister of State for National Guidance, and other Russian officials.
Ms. Cherkesova’s visit highlights Russia’s growing engagement with African nations in the digital and communication sectors, aligning with Uganda’s ongoing efforts to modernize its ICT infrastructure and promote innovation-driven development.
