President Yoweri Museveni has paid tribute to the late Gen. Moses Ali, describing him as a peacemaker, freedom fighter and champion of development.
Museveni made the remarks at Parliament, where legislators convened a special sitting to honour the veteran soldier and former First Deputy Prime Minister.
The President praised Gen. Ali’s decades of service to Uganda, highlighting his contribution to the struggle for peace, national unity and development.
Members of Parliament, government officials, family members and other dignitaries gathered to pay their respects and reflect on the late General’s military and political legacy.
Museveni said Gen Ali died at Nakasero Hospital in Kampala at about 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
Gen Ali, born on April 5, 1939, was 87 at the time of his death. His career spanned more than five decades across Uganda’s military, Cabinet and Parliament, making him one of the country’s longest-serving public officials. The Office of the Prime Minister said he had remained in active public service for over 50 years before he was left out of the Cabinet appointed in May 2026.
