M23 Rebels Feared Dead As DRC Army Drones Pound Positions In Mushaki

Airstrikes early Saturday morning targeted positions held by the March 23 Movement in the Mushaki locality of Masisi territory, North Kivu, according to local sources.

The strikes, carried out on March 7, 2026, reportedly hit two separate locations believed to be occupied by fighters from the rebel movement. One of the targets was located on a farm belonging to businessman and former provincial deputy Edouard Mwangachuchu in the Misekera area.

Reports said members of the rebel group had been occupying a residence linked to the former political figure, situated not far from the center of Mushaki.

Another strike reportedly occurred near telecommunications antennas locally referred to as “chez Baudoin,” also in the vicinity of Mushaki.

Initial reports from local sources indicate that several members of the rebel movement present in the area were killed, while others sustained injuries, though no official casualty figures had been released by authorities at the time of reporting.

Mushaki remains one of the strategic flashpoints in Masisi territory amid the ongoing conflict between the armed forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the M23 rebels. Kinshasa has repeatedly accused Rwanda of backing the rebel movement—an allegation Kigali consistently denies.

Local reports say the targeted sites had for months served as gathering points for fighters operating in the volatile area, underscoring the continued military tensions in North Kivu.
