The European Union has promised its commitment to supporting the Inspectorate of Government (IG) in the fight against corruption in Uganda.
This was stated by the EU Ambassador to Uganda, H.E. Jan Sadek, during a meeting with the Inspector General of Government (IGG), Lady Justice Naluzze Aisha Batala, at the IG headquarters in Kampala.
Ambassador Sadek said the EU will continue to support the work of the Inspectorate through its implementing partner, GIZ, and will also back the collaborative anti-corruption framework involving the Office of the Auditor General (OAG) and the Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Authority (PPDA).
He was accompanied by Ms. Karolina Hedström, Head of Cooperation; Mr. Alvaro Anton, Head of Finance, Contracts and Audit Section; and Ms. Ann-Charlotte Sallmann, Programme Officer.

Lady Justice Batala welcomed the EU’s continued support, commending the partnership for strengthening the Inspectorate’s capacity to execute its constitutional mandate.
She highlighted previous EU support under the Justice and Accountability Reform (JAR) Sector Reform Contract and the Strengthening Uganda’s Anti-Corruption Response Technical Advisory Facility (SUGAR-TAF), noting that these interventions improved compliance with accountability regulations and enhanced the prevention, detection and elimination of corruption in Uganda. They also discussed Uganda’s anti-money laundering strategy.
The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Inspectors General of Government, Anne Twino and Dr. Patricia Okiria, alongside Directors, Managers and Supervisors from the Inspectorate of Government.
