The Chief Coordinator of Operation Wealth Creation (OWC), Gen. Salim Saleh, has called on Uganda’s diplomats to synchronize their work abroad with the country’s national development priorities, stressing that deeper coordination and strategic planning are essential for economic transformation.
Speaking at the 2025 Ambassadors’ Conference in Kampala, held under the theme “Strengthening the Foreign Service’s Contribution to National Development”, Gen. Saleh underscored the need for Uganda’s missions abroad to play a more proactive role in advancing trade, investment, and international partnerships.
“Uganda has recorded growth in non-traditional exports such as gold, tourism, and remittances, but the challenge remains in scaling up agricultural exports. We must develop strategies that unlock the full potential of our farmers,” Gen. Saleh said.
He emphasized that Uganda’s foreign service must act as a bridge between the country’s economic opportunities and the global market.
“International cooperation requires deeper analysis of partners’ strengths and closer integration between diplomats and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Only through strategic coordination can Uganda advance its economic and diplomatic agenda,” he added.
The week-long conference has brought together Uganda’s diplomatic leadership from across the world to review progress, share strategies, and align their missions with Uganda’s Vision 2040 and the National Development Plan. Registration is currently underway.
Gen. Saleh’s remarks come at a time when government is pushing to expand export earnings from agriculture, a sector employing the majority of Ugandans but still underperforming in global markets.
The conference will also focus on strengthening public diplomacy, attracting investment, and positioning Uganda strategically in the rapidly changing global environment.
