Fresh drama unfolded at Parliament this morning after investigators sealed off the parliamentary offices of former Speaker Anita Among and Clerk to Parliament Adolf Mwesige Kasaija as part of the widening corruption and self-enrichment investigations shaking Uganda’s political establishment.
A heavily coordinated team of investigators arrived at Parliament at around 9:00 AM in several vehicles, including a specialized Evidence Collection Van, before moving into the Speaker’s wing to begin what sources described as a major evidence-gathering operation.
According to reports, investigators later entered the Speaker’s Chamber, which has now reportedly been declared an active crime scene.
Journalists and unauthorized personnel were barred from accessing the area as forensic teams combed through documents, electronic devices, and other materials believed to be relevant to the ongoing probe.
The latest development marks yet another dramatic escalation in the rapidly expanding investigations into alleged corruption, illicit enrichment, and abuse of office linked to Among and senior parliamentary officials.
The operation comes just days after Among officially withdrew from the Speakership race of the 12th Parliament, citing party harmony and pledging cooperation with investigators.
Sources inside Parliament described the atmosphere as tense and unprecedented, with MPs and parliamentary staff left in shock as security teams tightened access around key offices.
The arrival of an Evidence Collection Van further fueled speculation that investigators could be pursuing digital forensic evidence and financial records linked to the probe.
The investigations are being carried out amid the broader anti-corruption crackdown code-named “Operation Maliza Ufisadi,” recently announced by CDF Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who warned that “no one will be spared.”
