Uganda’s newly appointed Defence Attaché (DA) to Kenya, Brigadier General McDans Kamugira, has officially assumed his duties with a courtesy call on the Chief of the Defence Forces (CDF) of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), General Charles Kahariri, at Defence Headquarters in Nairobi.

The meeting, held on 29 July 2025, marked an important diplomatic-military engagement aimed at bolstering the longstanding defence cooperation between the two East African neighbours.

Brig. Gen. Kamugira conveyed warm greetings from the CDF of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, and reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to deepening military collaboration with Kenya.

General Kahariri welcomed Brig. Gen. Kamugira to Kenya, commended the strong historical bond between UPDF and KDF, and expressed confidence that the Attaché’s tenure would further enhance defence diplomacy in the region.

The meeting comes at a time when both Uganda and Kenya continue to play key roles in regional stabilization missions and joint security operations under the East African Community (EAC), AUSSOM, and other frameworks.

Brig. Gen. Kamugira’s deployment reflects Uganda’s growing emphasis on proactive military diplomacy, with Defence Attachés increasingly serving as key links in regional cooperation, intelligence sharing, and conflict prevention efforts.

The UPDF and KDF have in recent years collaborated on various initiatives including joint training exercises, anti-terrorism operations, and capacity building, especially in maritime security along Lake Victoria and border security in areas such as Karamoja and Turkana
