A cloud of uncertainty hung over the swearing-in of Uganda’s newly appointed Cabinet on Monday after Head of Public Service and Secretary to Cabinet, Lucy Nakyobe, revealed that four appointees remain under review pending guidance from President Yoweri Museveni.
Speaking ahead of the ceremony, Nakyobe said 78 newly appointed Cabinet members were present and ready to take the oath of office, while one appointee was indisposed.
She disclosed that the four others had been engaged over the weekend by her office and the Solicitor General, with a report already submitted to the President for further direction.
“The four others, as guided by the President, were engaged over the weekend by myself and the Solicitor General. A brief has been submitted for further guidance from the President,” Nakyobe said.
The development comes amid heightened scrutiny of some ministerial appointees following concerns raised during the parliamentary vetting process, particularly regarding citizenship and eligibility issues.
Ambassador Adonia Ayebare, Calvin Echodu, Shartsi Musherure and Lawrence Muganga are the affected individuals according to reports.
All eyes are now on State House as the President considers the brief and determines the fate of the four pending appointments.
