Uganda’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in charge of Regional Affairs, Hon. John Mulimba, today held a bilateral meeting with H.E. Estegenet Bezabih Yimenu, Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to Uganda, at the Ministry Headquarters in Kampala.
The two diplomats engaged in discussions on matters of mutual interest, focusing on ongoing cooperation and upcoming high-level engagements between their respective countries.
Ambassador Estegenet briefed Hon. Mulimba on preparations for the mid-term review of the Ethiopia-Uganda Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC), scheduled to take place in October 2025.
The review will assess progress on the implementation of the eight Memoranda of Understanding signed during the 4th JMC session held in Addis Ababa in April.
Then, Uganda and Ethiopia signed a record eight Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) in a significant stride to deepen bilateral cooperation, as the 4th Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) concluded in Addis Ababa.
The landmark agreements span diverse sectors including aviation, energy, agriculture, water resources, and trade.
In a significant diplomatic gesture, Ambassador Estegenet also delivered an official invitation letter to H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, inviting him to attend the inauguration of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), slated for September in Ethiopia.
The invitation reflects Ethiopia’s commitment to regional cooperation and shared development in the Nile Basin.
Uganda and Ethiopia continue to enjoy warm bilateral relations rooted in Pan-African solidarity, regional peace, and shared economic interests.
The upcoming events are expected to further cement strategic collaboration between the two nations in areas such as energy, trade, aviation, and regional security.
