The Government of Algeria has announced 210 fully funded scholarships for African students in 2025, reaffirming its commitment to educational exchange and youth empowerment across the continent.

This announcement was made during a bilateral meeting on July 30, 2025, between Uganda’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs (International Affairs), Hon. Henry Okello Oryem, and H.E. Mourad Amokrane, Ambassador of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria to Uganda.

The meeting, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kampala, focused on deepening bilateral ties and preparing for the upcoming Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD IX), scheduled to take place in Yokohama, Japan, from August 20 to 22, 2025.

TICAD remains one of the most influential global platforms for African development since its inception in 1993.

Hon. Oryem and Ambassador Amokrane held productive discussions centered on advancing African unity and sustainable development through collaborative partnerships.

The Minister emphasized Uganda’s strategic role in championing African-led growth, particularly highlighting education as a critical pillar for transforming societies and achieving long-term prosperity.

Ambassador Amokrane underscored Algeria’s Pan-Africanist orientation, announcing the scholarship package as a tangible contribution to human capital development in Africa.

The initiative, he said, reflects Algeria’s unwavering belief in investing in Africa’s future through education and skills development.

The Ambassador also expressed interest in exploring greater economic cooperation with Uganda, with particular focus on trade in agricultural products, such as milk and coffee, identifying them as key sectors for mutual benefit.

Both parties reaffirmed their countries’ commitment to TICAD’s goals and the broader continental agenda for an integrated, prosperous, and self-reliant Africa.

The meeting concluded with Hon. Oryem extending his appreciation to Ambassador Amokrane for the constructive engagement and reiterating Uganda’s strong ties of friendship and cooperation with Algeria.
