DETAILS: Uganda Security Commandos Rescue Kidnapped Top Egyptian Diplomat

A team of highly trained Uganda’s Security commandos have successfully rescued a senior Egyptian diplomat attached to the Egyptian embassy in Kampala rom captivity.

Mr Muhammad Ali Abdul Amidu, an Egyptian diplomat and official at the Egyptian Embassy, was kidnapped on November 8 by unidentified assailants in Kampala.

The diplomat was abducted along Zanna Entebbe Road and taken to an undisclosed location. His kidnappers demanded a $40,000 ransom, threatening to kill him if their demands were unmet. The incident was reported to the Jinja Road Police Division, prompting an immediate response from Ugandan security agencies.

The Crime Intelligence Unit, in coordination with the Directorate of Intelligence Services of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), began tracking the suspects’ movements across various locations. On November 13, around 2:00 PM, security teams intercepted the kidnappers while they were en route to Pearl Motel in Buloba, Wakiso District.

The kidnappers were traveling in a Toyota Noah, registered UAZ 247S, and had three occupants. During the confrontation, one of the kidnappers was neutralized by security forces, allowing the safe rescue of Ali Mohammed, who was unharmed in the operation.

Two suspects are currently in custody and are expected to face legal charges for their involvement in the kidnapping. The Uganda Police Force has assured the public of its commitment to protecting citizens and diplomatic officials within the country.

AIGP Christopher Damulira, the Director of Crime Intelligence praised the swift and unified efforts of the security teams, stating, “You have made us proud as a country.” He commended the teams’ dedication, describing the operation as a testament to Uganda’s readiness to protect lives and property. “It is a reassurance to all Ugandans and all other people in the country that security forces will always do whatever possible to protect life and property,” he added.
